This week's sharemarket rout could prove costly for Frank Lowy and his fellow Westfield shareholders.

A fall in suitor Unibail-Rodamco's share price in recent days and exchange rate moves mean the value of the European retail giant's bid for Westfield has dropped by about 10 per cent to $9.03 a security, from $10.01 when it was announced in December.
