Eli Wilner's Montauk Property On The Market For $50 Million

A beachfront Hamptons property spanning roughly 36 acres - which sought $50 million in 2010 but failed to sell - is back on the market for $49.995 million.

Owner Eli Wilner, head of a Manhattan-based high-end framing company, said he decided the time was right to relist his Montauk home earlier this summer, when his next-door neighbor, J. Crew CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler, put his 30-acre property on the market for $85 million.

Most of Mr. Wilner’s property is preserved and can’t be developed, though it could be used for agriculture such as a horse farm or vineyard, said Mr. Wilner, 59, who said he spent about $20 million to buy the land and build the house.

Located in the Montauk Point area, the gated property also has a fresh water pond, according to Matthew Breitenbach of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, who is listing the property with his mother, Susan Breitenbach of the Corcoran Group.

There is a private wooded path to the ocean. The beach is technically public, but because there are few other access points nearby, there is seldom anyone there.

Asian-inspired with a blue-tiled roof, the home is about 7,000 square feet with five bedrooms, triangular skylights and a three-story circular staircase made from Honduran mahogany.
